Part 2: Our Week of Thanksgiving ~The Need
Since moving to Plymouth Rock Ranch, we’ve lived many adventures. We’ve also lived rather unconventionally.
We started out literally camping in our 5th Wheel trailer for the 1st year. The second year God provided a 17′x26′ canvas deck tent for us to add to our minute 5th Wheel living space for 11 people. Boy Howdy, was the extra space palatial!
We spread our wings, set up a food prep area in the tent and brought our dining room table out of storage and ate in the tent instead of in outdoor chairs under the stars. We put up our desk and computer and brought in satellite internet! Internet in a tent. Whodathunkit?
God knew our needs even before we did. He knew the summer floods of 2005 were coming. I can’t imagine in my wildest dreams how we would have managed during that summer of rain upon rain upon rain, upon flood upon flood upon flood, without the extra space of the tent to expand into. God had mercy upon us in this provision.
Our tent has served us well, but it’s valiant service has come to an end. The summer floods of 2005 from which it saved us, was the beginning of the end of our tent. Our poor tent was not given much of a chance that summer to dry out and mildew and rot slowly set in in the base seams where the tent was attached to our wood deck/floor.
It defied the mildew well until this past summer when rips and tears began to appear.
They quickly spread and the cats and dog loved all of their kitty and doggy doors they had to get in and out of the tent. We, on the other hand, weren’t too thrilled with them.
We even tried patching it with Gorilla Tape. But the cats and dog liked their free access too much and managed to just push it loose.
We were probably the only ones who were thankful for the drought as we didn’t have to worry about rain leaking in through these rips and tears. Then the rains steadily reappeared this fall. When it rained, we would have to roll up towels to put around the edges of the tent to capture the water.
We knew we had a need before the rains returned. God knew we had a need. We were praying in earnest for a way to shelter us once again. When Rick was offered the temporary travel to Washington, which came with per diem, he said yes, and breathed a prayer of thanksgiving for God’s provision. God had answered our prayers for a way to enclose our tent with a stick framed building!
The days of our Rechabite Journey as tent dwellers are coming to an end this Week of Thanksgiving. The memories of it will live on forever………..
Pictures of Wednesday’s work day coming so stay tuned!
